Social workers work with people and families to support them through difficult times and ensure that vulnerable people, including children and adults are safeguarded from harm. Their role is to provide support and help in order to improve outcomes in people’s lives. Social Workers often act as advocates or guides for people however sometimes they are required to make difficult decisions.

Jobs in Social Work often take place in settings like homes, schools, hospitals or other public sector or voluntary organizations. The work is often office based however, it will include a lot of visits to people. The types of people Social Workers often worth with are; the elderly; people with learning and physical difficulties; young offenders; people with mental health problems; school non-attenders; substance abusers and homeless people.

What are the requirements to be a Social Care Worker?

To work as a Social Worker, you will need a degree or a postgraduate degree in social work and sometimes experience in a caring role. Social Workers often work within high emotion situations and so it is important to be able to remain calm and logical under distress.
